Success – A state of mind

I often hear people – and companies – complaining that they just can’t seem to get over that proverbial “hump” – you know that mountain that stands between them and the holy land of success. They typically have a lot of “answers” as to why they haven’t reached the holy land – the economy is bad, my boss is mean, Starbucks closed near my office and now I can’t get the same energy at 9 am. Yada yada yada.

Those answers are really excuses. Success is a state of mind. Before you can BE successful you need to BELIEVE that you WILL be successful. You need to feel like a success and you also need to remove any doubt in your mind that you will not achieve your goals. Goals – that’s a word often missing in those holy land non finders. They talk about them, they might even write them down – but I guarantee they don’t live by them. You see in order to achieve anything – you need to be willing to live it, eat it and breathe it – whatever “it” may be. You need to ignore the bumps in the road. You also need to realize that with any form of success there comes a price to be paid for that success. That price may be working 80 hour weeks, being poor for awhile, going outside your comfort zone and doing “stuff” you don’t like to do in the short term in order to reach nirvana in the long run.

That proverbial hump that is keeping you away from success is you – not the economy, not the boss and surely not the absent mocha latte at 9am. Set some goals, write them down and live them, THEN get into the office at 7, put a smile on your face and get to work! Success will be yours.
