Tis the season for holiday travel – are you ready?

Ahhhh…Thanksgiving is almost here.  Turkey, stuffing, pumpkin pie….and airport and/or highway nightmares.  We can’t control the weather or the crowds, but we can control a few things!

Here are 5 Tips for making holiday travel just a bit easier:

1. Head out early.  This may seem obvious, but traveling the day before Thanksgiving or on Christmas Eve should be your last resort. One day earlier will make all the difference.  Just think of the stress reduction alone!

2. Pack light and ship ahead.  The holidays can be stressful, so don’t add to the stress with missing luggage and/or gifts!  With the extra baggage fees airline’s charge it is well worth it to ship ahead anything beyond your carry-on luggage!  Plus, no waiting at baggage claim.  Driving?  If it fits easily in the car – no need to ship. But if you are stuffing your Prius to the brim and can’t see to save your life –  UPS might be a smarter option!

3. Trip insurance.  When traveling by air we always suggest getting trip insurance – it protects you from lost luggage, turkey chorus line missed flights and many will toss in medical coverage including medical evacuation if needed.  There are many options – best to discuss this with your Founders’ agent during your trip planning.  Good news – these policies are pretty easy to bind, usually same day and they are very affordable.

4. Pack snacks.  Road trip munchies are a must – be creative and make it an adventure!  Flying?  Most airlines don’t serve meals any longer – even on cross country flights.  Pack some healthy snacks for the ride – trust us, you will be a lot happier when you land!

5. Expect the unexpected.  If you are traveling during one of the busiest times of the year – some unfortunate things will happen.  Be prepared to avoid most of them, but don’t be surprised if there are some bumps in the road.  Take a deep breath and remind yourself that eventually you will get to your destination.  Rushing, getting angry or being “that person” on the highway won’t get you there any quicker.  Relax…enjoy the adventure.  Just think – you will definitely have something to talk about at the dinner table!

Don’t forget to give us a call about that trip insurance – we can walk you through the process!
